This drug-free treatment relieves pain from disc herniations, sciatica and degenerative disc disease.

Anna Stadnick

Connecticut native Anna Stadnick has had three health issues that gave her significant trouble over the years.

“I’ve had a tilted pelvis for years; I had a meniscus tear in my left knee that had to be repaired and I’ve had sciatica for years, too,” she lists. “The tilted pelvis caused the other problems.”

Sciatica is the inflammation or compression of the sciatic nerve, which extends down each leg. Poorly aligned vertebrae can pinch the nerve, bulging discs can press on it and inflamed muscles can squeeze it from either side. Sciatica can be especially difficult to treat, because the sciatic nerve may be pinched or inflamed in more than one location.

In Anna’s case, spinal disc problems and the sciatica combined to make her life miserable.

“I was having steroid injections in my neck for bulging discs and also in the area where the sciatic nerve was being compressed,” she recalls. “That gave me relief, but it was only temporary, and I know how dangerous steroids can be. I didn’t want to have any more injections.”

As a result, Anna searched for another solution, and she had a good idea of where she wanted to go. She consulted Dr. Jeremy M. Gordon, a chiropractic physician and clinic director at DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression.

“I had seen the Volusia Health Care News articles in many different places,” she explains, “like at my doctor’s and dentist’s offices. I was always very interested in reading about people who had a successful recovery using spinal decompression treatment. I discussed it with my husband and he agreed to come with me to Dr. Gordon’s office so we could learn more.”

About Decompression

“If you want to get the best results for your patients, I believe that you need to have the best equipment available,” says Dr. Gordon. “In my opinion, the DRX9000 nonsurgical spinal decompression system is unequaled in its design and clinical results. The DRX9000 system primarily benefits patients with herniated, bulging or protruding discs; spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and those suffering with neuropathy in the arms or legs, as well as those with post-surgical neck and/or low back pain.”

DRX9000 technology has multiple design elements that make therapy easy on the patient, whether the problem is in the lumbar spine, or lower back, or the cervical spine, or neck area.

“The patient is able to relax and close their eyes while the treatment is performed, gently stretching and decompressing the discs of the spine,” describes Dr. Gordon. “This gentle motion increases disc spaces and reduces the size and severity of herniated, bulging or degenerative discs and restores nutrients and hydration.

“Unfortunately, many people choose to have back or neck surgery when it may not be necessary,” warns Dr. Gordon. “One recent article reported a fifty-three percent satisfaction rate among people who had undergone back surgery. That’s not much better than flipping a coin.

“By contrast, the DRX9000 has an excellent track record. After tracking our results over the last five years, I am very proud to say that we have a patient satisfaction rate of nearly eighty-five percent, even with those patients who were told that surgery was their only option. That’s a much higher satisfaction rate than invasive surgery.”

Decompression treatments are typically followed by cold therapy and/or electrical muscle stimulation to restore proper muscle tone, decrease inflammation and maximize the effects of the treatment. Cervical spinal decompression is also accompanied by laser therapy, which decreases nerve root inflammation and improves the healing process.

And the DRX9000 is just one part of a comprehensive therapy program, adds the doctor.

“In addition to electrical stimulation with hot or cold packs, we also offer a pain management modality called Soleve Targeted Neurostimulation, low-level laser therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage therapy, clinical nutritional counseling and weight loss programs [see sidebar].

“Anna was experiencing serious pain before she came to us,” reminds the doctor. “Since beginning the decompression treatment, her ability to move without pain has almost returned to normal. She has responded extremely well, and I’m pleased to have been able to help her reach her goals.”

"A wonderful group of people"

Anna is back to all sorts of activities today, thanks to Dr. Gordon.

Anna agrees that the comprehensive treatment, including the DRX9000, has been a lifesaver.

“We worked on my neck first, and after my neck was done, I didn’t have the pain there to focus on: I was starting to focus more and more on the pain of sciatica,” she explains. “So I decided to have DRX9000 on my lower back, too.

“I’m still in treatment with Dr. Gordon, but I can’t express how much it has helped. I don’t have any pain in my upper back or neck. The only pain I have is some muscle pain, because my muscles had been compensating for the bulging discs for so long. I have massage for that and I exercise, too.”

Anna emphasizes that Dr. Gordon’s treatment addressed her “pelvic tilt” issue at its core, and that has been a key to her recovery.

“I used to get massage back in Connecticut,” she recalls, “and every massage therapist told me,Your pelvis is way off. I talked to Dr. Gordon about it, and he said, We’ll do the decompression plus spinal manipulation and see what we can do about it. Now, my pelvis is just about straight! I went to my massage therapist here last week, and she confirmed that. She says it’s amazing how much straighter it is.”

Anna is grateful for Dr. Gordon and his staff.

“They’re just a wonderful group of people, and I’m so very impressed with Dr. Gordon,” she emphasizes. “He is amazing. I can’t say enough about their office.”
